Background:
20-year-old central defender Jack Wakely was announced as a new signing for Wycombe Wanderers on 28th July 2021, having played in earlier pre-season matches for the Wanderers Development squad. His move came after the High Wycombe born player had been released by Chelsea, where he had been since signing schoolboy forms aged 9.

During his time with Chelsea he had spent time on loan at Basingstoke Town during the 2018/19 season - making 15 League appearances. The following campaign he broke briefly into the Chelsea U23 squad, while he spent the tail end of the 2020/21 season on loan with the Brighton U23 team.

He signed a two-year deal with Wanderers and was allocated No.21 in the Wycombe squad. He would go on to make his First Team debut in a 5-0 home defeat to Burton Albion in a Football League Trophy group match on 9th November 2021. This would be his only competitive appearance for Wycombe during the 2021/22 season - also spending the closing weeks of the campaign on loan at National League side Maidenhead United.

During the 2022/23 season, Wakely went on to add further starts in both the Football League Cup and Football League Trophy, then on 14th January 2023 he was given his Football League debut, under then Wanderers Manager Gareth Ainsworth, when he came on as an 89th minute substitute in the 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. He made two further very brief Football League appearances as substutute under new boss Matt Bloomfield before the end of the season.

With the then 22-year-old out of contract at the end of June 2023, on 23rd June 2023, the Club announced he had signed a one-year extention to his deal with Wycombe but had been loaned out for the 2023/24 campaign to National League side Ebbsfleet United.
