Background:
Midfielder who originally joined Wanderers on 26th January 2018 on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2017/18 season from fellow 'League Two' side Notts County. Prior to the loan he had scored two goals in 83 League appearance for County having orginally signed in the summer of 2009 follow his release from Leicester City (where he joined as a school boy aged 12). During his time with County, he also spent short loan spells with Lincoln City and Ilkeston.

Made 7 appearances for Wanderers during his loan spell - making one start (home to Port Vale 24th March 2018). Having returned to County at the end of the season he was subsequently released but was invited back to Wanderers for pre-season training. It was then announced on Saturday 14th July 2018 that Thompson had joined Wanderers on an initial five month contract (until end of December 2018). Commenting on the deal, Thompson said "I’m happy to be on board officially and I can’t get wait to get started now. When I came in [January 2018], I knew the boys were playing really well and I’d have to be patient and wait for my chance. When I did get that chance, I was happy to be involved and be part of the team which won promotion. It was an unbelievable feeling and I’d never been part of such a wonderful group like that before.”

After a commanding a regular place in the Wanderers First Team during the opening half of the 2018/19 campaign, on the 4th January 2019 the Club announced that the then 25 year old had signed a new deal running until June 2021. Commenting on the deal, Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: "Curtis has been outstanding since he broke in the team and we knew he was a great player at County and he lost his way slightly. He has the heart of a lion and you can see how much he loves it here and it is a great acquisition for us." Meanwhile, Thompson added: "I am delighted and glad to get it done and to be here for another two and a half years. I enjoyed it when I initially joined. The lads here are great and they are wonderful people and I am really enjoying my time here. We were expected to be near the bottom and the boys have shown we can compete in this league. I am really enjoying playing with [Dominic Gape] in the midfield and I am loving playing in a team that works really hard for each other." At the end of the 2018/19 campaign he was awarded the "Players' Player of the Season" award.

In February 2021 it was announced that Thompson's contract had been 'extended through next year [2022] and beyond. This was assumed to mean he had signed a deal until June 2023. On 19th February 2022, Thompson was injured during the 5-5 draw with Cheltenham Town at Adams Park. The injury was later revealed as medial ligament damage, resulting in a lengthy lay-off until December 2022. He would make five more appearances before the end of the season, when his contract came to an end. On 10th May 2023, Thompson announced via his Instagram account that his contact with Wycombe Wanderers would not be renewed and he would be leaving the Club. He had made 152 First Team appearances for the Wanderers and netted on 3 occasions.
