Background:
A third signing in a day was announced by Wanderers at around 5pm on 22nd July 2019 with the news that 22-year-old central defender Giles Phillips had agreed a season long loan deal from Queens Park Rangers. Earlier the same day, Jacob Gardiner-Smith and Jack Grimmer had also been added to the Wanderers squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Chicago born player was signed by QPR in the summer of 2017 having played for FC Barrington in the USA. He was a regular for QPR U23 side during his first season at Loftus Road and subsequently signed a deal until June 2020, However, he had not made a First Team appearance ahead of his loan move to Wycombe. He signed for Wycombe having played in the pre-season friendlies against Woking and Brentford - scoring in the former with a header.

Commenting at the time of his move to Adams Park, Wanderers Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: "Giles is another young talent on QPR’s books who we strongly believe will improve our squad, and I’ve been really impressed by what I’ve seen from him so far. He’s got an excellent attitude and plenty of ability on the ball, as well as being a strong, commanding presence in the centre of defence. Once again I’d like to thank QPR for trusting us with another of their young talents. We saw Paul Smyth making an outstanding first impression on Saturday and now Giles comes into a club where he’ll fit really well into our culture and leave here a better player than when he joined, I’m sure of it.”

He was allocated No.16 in the Wanderers squad and went on to make his professional debut in the starting XI that lost on spot-kicks to Reading in the First Round of the League Cup at Adams Park on 13 August 2019.

After totalling 16 First Team appearances for Wanderers during the 2019/20 campaign, he initially returned to QPR following the end of the season but on 20th August 2020 it was announced that he had returned to Adams Park on a permanent deal - signing a one year contract running until June 2021. Commenting at the time of the deal, Gareth Ainsworth said: "Giles is still a work in progress but he showed a lot of potential last season and we feel he’s got every chance of developing into a top defender for us. The launch of our 'B Team' this summer means he’ll get more opportunities to play matches, work on his game and provide us with defensive cover all across the backline. He’s a popular member of the squad, worked extremely hard last season and I’m pleased to be keeping him with us."
