What we think: Jamie Bates joined Wycombe nearly 13 years after he had appeared on loan from Brentford in the Isthmian League days of 1986/87. His solitary game in a 4-0 victory at Bromley was before he made any of his 500 plus appearances for Brentford and meant that the older generation Wycombe fan has kept a close eye on his progress since.
He may have been at the tail end of his career but he was a crucial part in Wycombe retaining their Division Two status in 1998/99 after he was signed on a free on deadline day by Lawrie Sanchez. His career reached a high point with the FA Cup run of 2000/2001 before sadly calling it a day at the end of that season.
