An entertaining game played in sweltering heat at Adams Park saw Wanderers go down 3-2 to a relatively strong Spurs side. Wanderers started well but fell behind when veteran 'keeper Dave Beasant could only direct a Christian Zeige corner into his own net. Wycombe levelled shortly afterwards when Richard Harris converted a Darren Currie cross and it remained 1-1 until the half-time break.
With a wealth of substitutions on show from both sides it was Wanderers who fell behind to a stunning goal from Helder Postiga after a great through ball from Jamie Rednapp. Simon Davies made it 3-1 when he flicked in a Jamie Slabber cross from the right on 84 minutes but there was more to come from Wycombe close to the end when Youth Teamer Billy Harding strode in to smash home a right wing cross from Jermaine McSporran.
Wanderers had started the match brightly with Harris going close after five minutes but it was 44 year old Beasant who was by far the busier 'keeper. It was an unfortunate positional error that led to the first goal but he later saved well from Rohan Ricketts, Postiga and Kazu Toda.
The return of McSporran for Wycombe was a highlight and 'Jocky' showed he had lost little of his pace and his deliveries were only lacking that vital connection in front of goal. However, there was reward in the closing stages when McSporran's sprint down the wing saw the resulting cross tucked in by Harding and the Wanderers Youth Teamer, making his debut appearance for the First Team, enjoyed the celebration in front of the Valley End.
