Sean Devine continues his comeback Sean Devine and Andy Baird continued their comeback from long term injuries as they came through 90 minutes of a specically arranged friendly against Ryman League Maidenhead United at Adams Park. With Lawrie Sanchez looking on, Devine scored twice in the first half, while Gavin Holligan notched another after the break as Wanderers ran out 3-0 winners. Mexican triallist Carlos Lopez made another appearance in a Wycombe shirt but the central defender was merely a bit part as Baird and Devine took centre stage.
Devine sticks in his first goal of the evening The Baird and Devine duo took just 12 minutes to combine and produce the opening goal of the evening, Baird's cross the right being sided footed home by Devine from around eight yards. The finish showed Devine had lost none of his old touch and he could have made it 2-0 on 22 minutes after he followed up Stuart Roberts shot only to see his effort crash off the workwork.
It was neat piece of Roberts skill that set up the second goal a minute before the break. The Welshman managed to keep a ball in on the right bye-line before delivering a cross for Devine to juggle up, turn and volley home from just outside the six yards box.
Wycombe experimented with Devine playing wide on the left during the opening stages of the second-half. It was from a Devine cross on 51 minutes that Holligan should have scored from but the ex-Hammer sent his diving wide of the near post.
Gavin Holligan (hidden) sees his shot hit the back of the net to make it 3-0However, two minutes later Holligan got on the score sheet when he converted a Ryan Parsons cross from close range. Holligan could have added another on 79 minutes from another Devine left wing delivery but he fired wide again. Martyn Lee almost capped an eye catching performance when he crashed a 25 yard effort against the crossbar on 80 minutes that looked to have come down behind the goal line.
There were plenty of plusses from this game and Devine is sure to be eyeing a place in the First Team very shortly. For Baird he may need a few more games to get fully match fit but he was close to his old self, winning free-kicks and generally being knocked around by the opposition.
Final Score Wycombe 3 Maidenhead United 0
Wycombe: Osborn, Smillie, Parsons, Johnson, Lopez, Simpemba, Roberts, Lee, Baird, Devine, Holligan
