WANDERERS
PLAN CUSTOMER FOCUS
The Wycombe Wanderers Board of Directors hope to "transform the culture of the football world by setting a cutting edge example" according to Financial Director Graham Peart. Addressing members at the Club's Annual General Meeting on 16th October 2000, Peart made lengthy comparisons between Wycombe Wanderers and the local multiplex Cinema, where according to Peart "The focus is on the customer as the overriding priority. Unfortunately no football club can say that about their priorities - players come first at the moment and customers a poor second" In his address to members he said "The feelgood factor so important to our beloved sport has evaporated. The once accepted assumption that if you win matches you win support is not working here at Adams Park" Peart pointed out that the turnover for the previous season was down by approximately £100,000 to just over £3.5m and that the largest cost, players wages, was also slightly down on the 1998/99 season. The largest income was still gate receipts, with this showing a slight drop from the 1998/99 season. Despite the losses, Peart made the point that Reading had finished just one point above Wycombe in the Division Two table but had suffered a loss of around £2.25m. Peart inferred that the Club were beginning to look long and hard at themselves "We must evolve and make fundamental changes to introduce some new ideas to generate a new wave of enthusiasm" "At Adams Park we can become the first club to deliver real 'Customer Focus' it will be hard to achieve and some of the changes will be difficult for you to accept. However, it is essential that to achieve the 'Customer Focus' that new minimum standards of behavior will need to be enforced and anyone transgressing will be asked to leave as a matter of routine as you would be at the cinema or theatre" Peart wasn't specific on what these changes would, other than saying that they would be "radical". He added "The way to stop the losses is to get the undecided supporters to the stadium. We need them to re-commit. We must have more families here at Adams Park" The new Board members are injecting a £500,000 loan into the Club, with plans to re-launch Adams Park as a 'Leisure Village', with improved Conference and Banqueting facilities. The opportunity would also be there for members to invest a minimum of £1,000 on similar interest free terms. Members were promised to be sent precise details of this in the coming weeks.
