Wanderers put pressure on the Posh keeper The Wanderers' Under 19's sufferred their third succesive home defeat in the "Merit Division One" of the Football League Youth Alliance, going down 1-0 to Peterborough United at Molins Sports Ground.
Wanderers fielded virtually an Under 17 line-up which also included two players from next season's intake of new scholars; left back Will Stockwell and midfielder Liam Grier. Meanwhile striker Billy Harding was drafted into a central defensive role due to injuries elsewhere in the squad.
Peterborough in comparison included defender Bradley Thomas who trained with the England Under 19 squad earlier in March, Irish Youth International Killian Brennan and defender Sean St.Ledger who made his Football League debut for Posh in the recent meeting with Wycombe at London Road.
After an even start Nathaniel Griffiths should have given Wycombe the lead in the 12th minute when he found himself in space in front of goal but he could only manage to lob the ball onto the top of the crossbar with only the 'keeper to beat. Later in the half Lee Parrack, playing his first game since a long lay off through injury, also should have done better when he picked up a poor clearance but his shot from the left channel was took weak.
The visitors always looked dangerous on the break and were awarded a controversial penalty on 38 minutes when James Rogers was adjudged to have fouled when challenging a ball delivered from the right by Peterborough's impressive winger Ryan Semple. But justice was done when Tom Gott down well to his right to save Brennan's spot-kick.
It was a scrappy piece of defending that eventually cost Wycombe the game, Tolley finishing from close range on 52 minutes. Wanderers switched formation after the goal with Harding being pushed up front and Mark Philo helping out in defence. However, chances for either side continued to be limited and Posh held out to take all three points.
