Thame v Wanderers Ladies Sunday 13th October 2002 League 
This league fixture took Wanderers back to Towersey following the League Cup victory the previous week. The team was determined to improve on the cup performance that had seen the team win 8-3, but only after extra time. There is still work to be done, but the 6-0 scoreline reflects a much better performance.A couple of changes saw Helen Scourfield in at left back, Jenny Kitley move to the centre of midfield and Jess Bacon start up front, partnering Su Oakley. From the start the whole team looked lively and there were chances to score right from the whistle, Bacon was very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after creating a number of openings all through the game. Sophy Bowden looked confident on the right wing and combined well with Eloise Revans behind her. The first goal came from a header won by Kitley to Bowden who set up Player of the Match Karyn Atkinson, who turned and shot past the advancing keeper. Good work from Bowden on the right saw her take the ball to the byeline and cross past the keeper, a defender instinctively put her hands up giving the referee a very easy penalty decision. Oakley’s penalty kick was saved though and she had to wait for a ball to bobble out of a goal mouth scramble to squeeze a shot just inside the left hand upright to make it 2-0. Bowden made it 3 when she hit the top corner. Claire Perkins combined well with Scourfield to play some good football down the left and set up promising openings for Oakley and Bacon. A series of throws down the left ended in another penalty for a push in the box and Oakley stepped up again, and this time made no mistake. Lou Plumridge had another competent game in goal, coming out well to narrow the angle when Thame’s promising build up turned into a more serious danger and recorded her first cleansheet of the season. At the other end Atkinson added another, getting on the end of Oakley’s cross from wide on the right and Oakley completed her hat-trick after picking up beautifully weighted clearance from Revans. There is still a good way to go, but at least we know we’re all travelling in the right direction.
