Wanderers Ladies Reserves v Oxfam Ladies Sunday 10th November 2002 The Reserves notched up another league win with a resounding 11-0 victory over the new Oxfam Women’s team, keeping the team at the top of the B&B County League. Most of the game was played in the visitors half, but to give them credit they never gave up and tried to pass the ball around when they had the chance. Their cause wasn’t helped when a first half injury and lack of substitutes saw the injured player who had obviously never played in goal before, take the gloves and the original goalkeeper take her place on the pitch. Blues’ player of the match must go to Laura McClean who was impressive in midfield, and scored 5 goals! Had the second half gone on any longer she would probably have tucked away a few more, as she was looking to score at every opportunity by the end of the match. Leah Asante opened the scoring beating the keeper one on one from a through ball and headed home the second from a corner. Becks Meller on the right worked hard, combining well with Asante; she coolly made it 3-0 after a corner ball was knocked back to her on the edge of the area. Leanne Palfrey came up from the back to stick away a penalty and Amy Watters scored a perfect free kick from wide on the left midway through the second half. Jade Harker completed the scoring, while Roisin Nellis played well behind her at left back.
