Reserves match report

Morris Motors v Wanderers Ladies Reserves
Sunday 23rd February 2003

In a closely fought match Wycombe maintained their unbeaten run just, beating Morris Motors 4-3.
The Oxfordshire team had a dream start taking the lead almost from the kick off! Blues equalised on the quarter hour mark – Claire Burrage’s throw was knocked forward to Leah Asante, who carried it down the left before crossing to Stephanie “Twinkle” Dean who beat the keeper and passed the ball into the net. Just before the break Amy Watters played the ball into Player of the Match Asante who turned and took on two players before chipping the keeper to give Wycombe the lead.
The second half continued in a similar vein. Blues third goal, also scored by Asante following good work by Jade Harker and Twinkle on the left was soon cancelled out by the home team’s determination to take points from the league leaders, and their work-rate was rewarded by two goals that brought the teams level with 15 minutes remaining. Neither team wqs really satisfied with a draw and continued to look for a winner. Becky Flint, in particular, worked hard in midfield to close down the player with the ball when she came on and as a loose ball fell to Twinkle, she seized the opportunity, taking it between two defenders before beating the keeper to win the game 4-3.
