Wycombe Wanderers Ladies Football Team 2002-2003 Match report Luton Town Belles 0 Wanderers Ladies 3 Sunday 13th July 2003 The First Team played Luton Town Belles, runners up in the northern division, in blazing sunshine, and won promotion to the Southern Region premier division with a 3-0 victory. It was 1-0 at half time after Su Oakley picked up a ball Marion Lyon played down the left wing, ran half the length of the pitch and scored at the near post after the keeper parried her initial shot. Luton pushed the ball wide to try to get behind us, but weren't able to create too many clearcut chances, a well-struck freekick from just outside the area was probably their best chance but Lou Plumridge in the Wycombe goal held the shot well. Manager Graham Malcolm changed the system for the second half, dropping Jenny Kitley from central midfield to left back to play 4-4-2 which gave us a little bit of extra cover. Esther Morley's clearance put Oakley in behind the back for again soon after the break and she lobbed the keeper to double our lead. Jane Graddon, who grew in confidence as the game progressed played the ball that set up another Oakley lob to make it 3-0. Luton worked hard to pass the ball around, but the rock hard pitch didn't help them deliver the final ball they were looking for and Blues were able to enjoy what turned out to be a comfortable victory in the end.
