Didcot Town v Wanderers Ladies Sunday 8th December
Wycombe Wanderers Ladies dropped their first league points of the season in a disappointing game away at Didcot Town on Sunday 8th December. The home side looked brighter and more determined from the start and Blues had to come from behind twice to earn a draw. Elo Revans (ribs) and Lou Plumridge (broken fingers) were out of the side due to injury and Wycombe never really got to grips with the pace of the game. Poor touch afflicted the majority of Wycombe players and as mistakes continued, third placed Didcot saw their chance and grabbed it with both hands. They cut off back passes to Tracy Sturges in goal and put defenders under pressure. Pace on the wings caused problems throughout the game and poor clearances picked up by unmarked midfielders led to both first half goals. Blues started to get their act together in the last ten minutes of the first half and pulled one back through Su Oakley, feeding off good work from Jenny Kitley. When Wycombe managed to string a few passes together we looked quite a reasonable side, but we weren’t able to make enough of the chances created. Jess Bacon and Oakley combined well to open up the defence and Oakley rounded the keeper to bring us back on level terms and a victory looked a distinct possibility - in spite of the lineman’s flag that seemed to be on automatic pilot! Sturges made a good save midway through the second period but the majority of the action was at the other end. Unfortunately no-one could force the ball over the line and the game finished a very disappointing 2-2 draw.
