Reserves match report

Chesham United Reserves v Wanderers Ladies Reserves
Sunday 23rd March 2003

Wycombe Wanderers Reserves and Chesham United Reserves shared the points in their top of the table clash played in Naphill.
Although Blues had slightly more of the play in the first half, it was hard to pick out the right ball for Leah Asante, playing up front on her own and closely marked by the home side's centre back. Rachel Kyle, who has recently joined the team, worked very hard in the centre of the park, chasing every loose ball and making some good interceptions. Kyle, together with Amy Watters and Laura McLean kept looking to play Asante in and their persistence paid off when the team's top scorer tee-ed up a ball on her thigh on the edge of the area and coolly lobbed the advancing keeper.
The second half saw Chesham grow in belief as they started to pass the ball around and pull Blues backwards and forwards across the pitch. Clear cut scoring chances were few and far between but both teams rattled the woodwork and an equaliser was always on the cards. In the end the referee handed the home side an opportunity they could not refuse, awarding a penalty for a ball bouncing up and hitting an arm where there really was no intent at all. A draw was a fair reflection of the game but it was a shame the goal didn't come from open play. For a few minutes after the penalty, Chesham really looked like they wanted to win the game and Wanderers defending showed some signs of panic, but things soon calmed down and although both teams still pushed forward, there wasn't too much conviction. Most forward balls ended up in the arms of the two relieved goalkeepers and the game finished level.
Final Score Chesham 1 Wycombe 1
