ALL THERE IS TO SAY AND KNOW
ABOUT WYCOMBE WANDERERS ON THE INTERNET....
Alan Smith
Wycombe Wanderers Manager
June 1995 to 30 September 1996
Yes, Smith has gone and I'm sure that this will make things better.
However should Wycombe continue to struggle under whoever the new
manager is, will it be fair to point the finger at him, or will we be
forced to start looking at the players.
They have been almost entirely free of blame in this whole affair, as
most people assume that the bulk of the team wanted Smith out. If that
is so then they got their wish and will soon have a new boss. Fair
enough.
I'm sure that Beeks and co. will have learnt lessons from the
appointment of Smith and Kemp (what a nonentity - don't forget his part
in it too), and will appoint a better suited man for the job.
The revival of Wycombe is as much in their hands as his, most of them
have received loyalty from the supporters, they must now pay it back and
perform with renewed efforts. Only then will we find out whether Smith
and Kemp were the only ones to blame.

I can't say I am sad to see him go, and I think it shows there is some of
the old 'supporter friendly' club hidden behind the 'we must be more
professional' c**p that officials at the club spout from time to time. As
far as I am concerned football clubs are like and business - ie. they serve
the customer - and if the customer isn't happy with the product then it gets
changed. There seem to have been very few people happy with the way things
have gone at Adams park in the past 15 months, so it seems logical that the
directors of the club observe the wishes of the paying customers and change
things. I think it is a credit to them, although I am sure there will be
plenty of people making criticisms along the lines that the club shouldn't
bow to 'boo boys' and that it is a sign of the times in football that clubs
don't stick with managers when the team is losing. The simple fact is that
I don't mind paying money to see 'my' team lose - but I won't pay money to
watch them play badly and lose. Roll on a manager who respects the fans.

The comments made by A**n S***h since he left the club are indicitive of the
attitude in which he viewed the fans of WWFC. His constant harping on about
under-currents, rumour mills and uncaring fans were all smoke screens for the appalling
football being played on the pitch - and this was the biggest
complaint. You can stuff your all-seater stands, youth-teams, pasta diets and
living too far away, right up your arse if your not playing entertaining
football.
On the Monday that S***h resigned I was amazed that he had gone with the minimum
of fuss. For once he had seemed to have done the decent thing and acted like a
professional. But all the comments that he has made since show to me that we
were totally right about him and that it's only a shame that he didn't leave
sooner. I don't believe the stuff about spitting and the car - GET STUFFED
S***H.
I've heard the rumour about Kenny as well - is it too much to ask. Then again we
all thought S***h was the man for the job.

Nobody would claim that Martin O' Neill always got things right (though
he's not doing too badly at the moment!) but the mistakes he sometimes
made bear no comparison to those perpetrated by Alan Smith. I'm
convinced that Smith lost it from the moment last year, at half-time in
the Autoglass game at Wallsall, when he humiliated the players by
sending them back out from the dressing room onto the pitch because, he
claimed, he had nothing to say to them! What magnificent man-management
skills!
Again, though there may have been faults on both sides, the dispute with
Paul Hyde might well have been settled with better handling.
Finally, the way Smith dispensed with the services of Chuck Moussadik
was an absolute disgrace.
He had to go.

Here's some speculation..........
Kenny Dalglish spent Wednesday afternoon (2 Oct) at the club.
Read into that what you will ...........!?

Ok, Smith And Kemp are gone.
Lets forget them and remember that Wycombe Wanderers have more
games coming up. Attendances are bad and a lot of fans are staying
at home not just because of poor performances, but because
Wycombe fans keep bickering. The Fulham fan is right in saying
that Wycombe will never be a big club (Fulham were, look where
they are now), too many people in Wycombe support London sides a
nd have been accustomed to watching the quality of football you get
there.
Wycombe Wanderers is a football league club. We can't keep living on
past success, we are no longer a non league club, we have risen from
playing the likes of Dulwich Hamlet and Woking and don't want it to
happen again. Watford and Wimbledon have reached the heights, so can the
Blues.
No manager worth his salt is going to want to come to Wycombe if he
knows he is going to get grief from the people who pay his wages.
Beeksy has done us good in his time as chairman and he respects the
fans, lets give him the time to get the right man in his own time.
Chairboys Gas is great, and probably read by Wycombe fans, players and
management alike. Football is all about the buzz you get from watching
and playing the game. Lets get the buzz back and keep it. Even with a
bad manager the fans can lift the players.

Alan Smith did to Wycombe what Graham Taylor did to England - set us back
years although to be fair he made good signings in Brian Parkin and Paul McCarthy - although he let so many go). The new man must be positive, unlike Smithy who always looked on the black side. We need a young manager, like Ray Wilkins or Chris Waddle, who will play the game right and someone who does not alienate the players. We need a manager who will play Steve McGavin, who has been a revelation since his return, preferably in centre midfield. The new man must get the whole club pulling together - it is not too late to think of promotion, but we must start here and now. The match against Rotherham must be the springboard.
Thank God he has finally gone perhaps we can start playing good football again and maybe even win.

What's all this about car vandalism and spitting from the Fulham supporter's mail message.
It's the first I've heard of it. Does anyone have any more info?

At last Beeks sees sense and gets rid of that git!!!!!!
I for one hope that during his time as caretaker manager Neil SmilLie can
reinstall some fight back into the players that has been missing for the
past year.
I was at Peterbrough on Saturday and at the time when Big Tel was subbed
(or should that read snubbed?), I said to the bloke next to me a hope
that was the last decision Smith made as our manager, Thank god I was
right.

I am not convinced that Smith should take all the blame for the poor performances this season. The boo boys didn't have the nerve to hound Martin O'Neill out for the terible games we had in the second half of his last season.
Martin bought just as many poor players, some of whom are still with us.
Surely the players deserve some of the blame for Saturday's poor second half performance? 100437.346@compuserve.com
Good decission from the board, anyone who wears maroon tracksuits and bright white trainers needs to go!! Wycombe were going nowhere with Smith. Did well in the cup like Smith's last season with Palace but for some reason they cannot do well against teams in their own division. I think Smith should spend more time looking at build up play than hoofing it up the wing which is bad when the pitch is so quick. Ryan should stay out because he always seems to give the ball away! Where is Rowbotham? the programme says he is still here but he is not in the team photo. I thought he had a good season last year.
The people I think would be good as manager are:
Kenny Dalglish
Cyrille Regis
Tel Evans
Si Garner (why not?)

About time too. Smith may have been good with youth policies but as a motivator he was as useful as a chocolate tea pot.... Lets hope Neil Smillie can turn it around for us......

I am not a Wycombe fan, but as a supporter of Fulham, a club which has had many downs in recent years I have been following the progress of Wycombe from 'humble' beginnings to the second division of the football league with interest. I have been appalled by the treatment of Alan Smith by many of the fans at your club, especially those who have resorted to the lowest form of human behaviour by spitting on him and vandalising his car. These people deserve nothing more than they get.
Following in the footsteps of Martin O'Neil could never be easy. He knew when to leave at the right time. The club, as reports have previously informed us, was stiil run like a non league outfit. It is beyond
all possibility that any successful future could have been carved out if Smith had not updated and restructured the club. This obviously causes problems, but your 'boo boys' have not given Smith a chance. You CANNOT expect to get promotion or win a trophy every season. You are NOT and are NOT LIKELY to ever be a big club. I have to unfortunately admit the same for Fulham, but these are realities and the sooner Wycombe fans realise this the better it will be for all concerned.
I wish the next manager an easier time. But somehow I don't think he will get it.

Walking up to the ground last night, it felt like a huge grey cloud had been lifted from the place - it was like it used to be before Smith turned up.
It probably took half the game for the players to get used to playing football again, but when they did they showed us all just what they are capable of - at last they wanted to win, and it was like the old Wycombe again.
As far as I'm concerned, that second half justified all the people who've been criticising Smith and calling for him to go. I wonder who the players were who actually liked him?
A very happy WWFC fan.
