Football League Trophy - 1st Round Group stage

In front of a sub-1,000 crowd at Adams Park, Wanderers eventually succumbed 4-2 to Coventry City in the final Southern Group D game of the latest incarnation of the Football League Trophy.

Gareth Ainsworth made eight changes to the side that had beaten Portsmouth the previous weekend in the FA Cup - the most significant being the return of 'keeper Scott Brown for his first showing since he was injured on the opening day of the season.

Elsewhere, there were run-outs for Marcus Bean, Nick Freeman, Scott Kashket and Myles Weston. Will De Havilland missed out through suspension, while Adebayo Akenfenwa, Jamal Blackman and Paul Hayes were all rested. Gareth Ainsworth and assistant Barry Richardson were named as substitutes.

With both sides already guaranteed a place in the next round, this game was never going to hugely competitive. Although, with a £10,000 financial incentive for the winners on the night, there was perhaps some background interest for the accountants. Stephen McGinn and Scott Kashket had given Wanderers a 2-0 lead by the 53rd minute but City, who made three substitutions at the break reduced the arrears on 57 minutes when one of the newcomers, Ryan Haynes, netted past Brown. Three minutes later the scores were level after another Haynes shot from distance crept under Brown. A disastrous spell for Wanderers culminated in the 63rd minute when George Thomas converted a cross from Jodi Jones. Wycombe pushed for an equaliser put were caught on the break on 86 minutes after Haynes squared for Gael Bigirimana to fire past Brown.
