US Avranches 2 Wycombe Wanderers 1 Thursday 16th July 2015 Friendly Wanderers went down 2-1 at French third tier side US Avranches in their first pre-season friendly before the start of the 2015/16 season. Gareth Ainsworth gave run outs to all six of his new signings, plus loanee Michael Harriman and three trialists. The trialists were Sean Maguire , Luke O'Nien and Luke Woodland. 21 year old Maguire, released by West Ham at the end of 2014/15, scored Wycombe's goal.. In a match played in Coutances (around 40 miles from Avranches), Wycombe included Alex Lynch between the sticks after appearing for Wanderers in the end of season play-off games with Plymouth and Southend. The 20 year old made two blocks during the first-half against the French side. Meanwhile, first choice Matt Ingram made the trip to France with the squad but COTN understands that Ingram's injury goes beyond the reported 'knee injury' and an ongoing shoulder injury has been keeping the highly rated 'keeper from a return to action but the Club have opted not to elaborate on either injury. Paul Hayes had Wanderers best effort during the opening 45 minutes but it was Lynch who was finally beaten five minutes before the break when Aaron Pierre conceeded a penalty for a pull on home striker Pierre Yves Hamel - the same player converting to give the home side the lead at the break. Lynch was replaced by Wanderers' goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson at the break and the 45 year old saw his side eventually draw level on 85 minutes when new signing Jason Banton set up one of Wanderers' trialist Sean Maguire for a close range tap-in. However, the 'veteran' was beaten in the dying minutes when Farid Beziouen nipped into the box before driving a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Full-time - Avranches 2 Wycombe 1
The Wanderers squad in France as published in local paper Ouest France. The report also revealed that Wanderers Chairman Andrew Howard has a 'residence' in Coutances. |
