Wycombe Wanderers 0
Oxford United 1
Saturday 18th January 2014
Football League Two

Steven Craig - marching orders versus Oxford Wanderers were left just two points clear of the relegation zone after another late goal condemned them to a 1-0 home defeat to Oxford United. Nicky Wroe scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute with a strike from just outside of the box against a Wycombe side who had been reduced to ten men as early as the 20th minute. Wanderers 8th red card of the season came when Steven Craig was penalised for serious foul play for raising his arm in an aerial challenge with John Mullins. It set Wycombe on the back foot for the remainder of the game and with Paris Cowan-Hall missing up front due to a training injury, there was little creativity going forward for Gareth Ainsworth's side. Marvin McCoy came in for the injured Cowan-Hall as the only change to the side that had drew at Morecambe the previous Saturday.

It's now one victory in the last 13 League games for Wycombe (the worst current form in the division), with no wins in the last seven at home. And with 28 points from the opening 25 games, Wanderers are 20th in the table.

Post match reaction:
Gareth Ainsworth Commenting after the game, Gareth Ainsworth said, "I put my name to that performance. The fans appreciated it at the end and I did as well. The lads gave me every single ounce of energy they had, they were brilliant today. It's taken a wonder strike from the edge of the box to beat us. We're down, but if we play like that then we're going to have no problems. We'll win a lot more than we lose. The red card had a big toll on the game and unfortunately with 10 men it's always going to be difficult. I don't think Steve (Craig) meant to get sent off, but if your arm's flailing about then you're risking it. I want to have a go at him but I know he's as gutted as anyone."
