1999 and onwards If it wasn't for the internet it would be easy to forget some seasons. The 1999/2000 season probably falls into that category for Wycombe. For many it was just a relief to be able to continue to watch a Second Division side. That is, the then Second Division, the one that used to be the Third Division and is now 'League One'. [insert diatribe here] A click into 1999/2000 reveals that was the one where we beat Wolves in the LEAGUE CUP and then had to put out a fire against Oxford City in the FA CUP. Oh hold on, this was the season where somebody suggested a move to Milton Keynes. No we're not going there. You do the research. It was during the 1999/2000 season that COTN helped out with an upgrade to the Club's official website. Suggestions to make COTN the 'official' website were waved away. The independent stance was important and surely it couldn't be too much problem to update two sites, we are ONLY mid-table Wycombe Wanderers, finally settle into League football. It was on the way to the FA Cup replay at Grimsby that the graphic opposite was first uploaded to provide the design template that you still see in December 2005. Having beaten Grimbsy to reach the Fourth Round for the first time, the remainder of the 2000/2001 season is a bit of a blur with the editor switched to auto-pilot. The archives say we played Liverpool in the semi-final at Villa Park. Found this in the banner archives too, so it must be true.
So that was Chairboys on the Net in the beginning. Fast forward to December 2005 and two more managers have gone and in the true Wycombe Wanderers tradition they were not your simple run of the mill sackings or departures. Hey, we even finally managed to get relegated - fourth time unlucky. Of course there was also the complex goings on 'off the pitch' and we could go on looking back at the intervening years but for nostalgia freaks the now established archives should provide a suitable fix. It would be a fair bet that the next major story is not too far away and Chairboys on the Net will hopefully attempt to continue to provide an independent commentary on this and other stories as they unfold. Thanks to all those who have contributed in any way to the site over the past ten years and here's hoping that some day in the not too distance future we can celebrate an internet first promotion.
