SANCHEZ MISSES PERRETT
(Friday 10th August 2001)

Lawrie Sanchez Lawrie Sanchez has missed out on trying to tempt defender Russ Perrett to Wycombe after seeing him in action for Luton Town. The 28 year old was on trial with The Hatters after being transfer listed by Cardiff City and Sanchez took note of Perrett while he was watching Shaun Maher in action for Luton v Spurs.

Perrett was offered a contract by Luton boss Joe Kinnear after impressing during Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Spurs and excepted the three year deal on Friday. No fee was involved.

Perrett once played under Kinnear at Wimbledon during the earlier stages of his career and it was Kinnear who won the battle between the two former Dons for his signature. However, it's unlikely that Sanchez would have been prepared to offer a three year and will now take up his search elsewhere

6'3" Perrett joined Cardiff in the summer of 1999 after a four year spell with Portsmouth where he clocked up 72 League appearances. He made 29 appearances for Cardiff but with the influx of big money signings in the close season at Ninian Park, his days were quickly numbered. He made just two First Team appearances for City last season having been kept out through injury.

Meanwhile Shaun Maher was reported to have gone looking for yet another club and talked to Bournemouth. However, he has since reported back to Kinnear and will continue his trial with Luton for another week.
