MARSH COMPLETES COBBLERS MOVE
(Thursday 6th September 2001)
Chris MarshChris Marsh has completed his £10,000 transfer to Northampton Town after passing a medical at the Sixfields club. The move ends a unspectacular spell at Wycombe that lasted less then six months. The 31 year old defender moved to Wycombe from Walsall on transfer deadline day last season in a £30,000 deal. However, after making eleven starts before the end of last season, he failed to make the starting line-up in the new campaign.

Speaking of the move, Chris Marsh told the Northampton media "It has been a strange experience for me, I spent 12 years at Walsall and enjoyed it. I went to Wycombe last March but they have changed their system and I have been a victim of that. Lawrie Sanchez has said he wanted me to stay and fight for a place but I know Kevin Wilson well and he is a big factor in my decision to come here."

Town boss Kevin Wilson said "Marsh is a very good player and we need competition for places." Meanwhile, Lawrie Sanchez is not too concerned that Wycombe are £20,000 down on the deal. He told the Bucks Free Press "We are making a loss on him but Ted [Mark Rogers] has recovered from his injury and is playing well and is now my first choice right back." The Wycombe boss will now hope to put the money saved from Marsh's wages into his transfer fund to help bring in a new striker.
