PLAYER HUNT LATEST
(Friday 3rd August 2001) Mansfield have rejected a £200,000 bid for striker Chris Greenacre according to reports in the Bucks Free Press. The revelation comes just days after Stags Manager Billy Dearden denied being approached with such an offer. He was quoted as saying "No manager has come in with a firm bid for Chris, if someone had a bid to make I would like to think they would come to me with it. But I've heard nothing and, as far as I am concerned, I don't want Chris to go anywhere anyway." Greenacre turns 24 in December which will mean that he can leave at the end of the 2001/2002 season on a Bosman ruling. However, Sanchez told the BFP "I made Mansfield an offer and they rejected it and I haven't got any more money to offer". Earlier in the week Sanchez was shunned by Northampton striker Jamie Forrester and will now start to look elsewhere for strikers. He has offered Gavin Holligan a one year deal and the ex-Hammer has now gone away to think over the offer. Meanwhile Bohemian central defender Shaun Maher is also said to be the target of Luton Town and will play for The Hatters in a pre-season friendly match on Tuesday (7th August) against Spurs. Sanchez is planning to watch that game but said "He's one of the biggest wage earners at Bohemiam. He's not a cheap alternative" Sanchez says he still has around £200,000 of his transfer budget to spend and is still realistically looking to reach the play-offs. He told the BFP "I'm still looking for players but whether anything happens before or during the season, only time will tell. I can only spend money once, so I've got to spend it wisely" Click here to read all the latest Wycombe news |
