A LEGEND DEPARTS
(Tuesday 26th March 2002)
There's only one Dave Carroll - get down on your knees and pray Wanderers' legend Dave Carroll has left the Club to join Ryman League Aldershot Town on a free transfer. 35 year old Carroll was out of contract at the end of the season and was told he could go early by Lawrie Sanchez as the Wycombe boss begins his expected end of season clear-out.
The player who became known as 'Jesus' by Wanderers fans joined Wycombe in 1988 from Ruislip Manor and was a key figure as the Club rose from non-League status to Football League regulars through to FA Cup giant-killers. Carroll clocked up just over 600 First Team appearances and scored exactly 100 goals, including a whole batch of a memerable solo efforts. In December 2001 Carroll became the first Wycombe player to make 300 Football League appearances.
It goes without saying that all here at Chairboys on the Net wish Dave the very best for the future. He was a legend in the truest sense of the word and 'that goal' at Wembley in 1994 will be remembered forever more.
