CE ARRANGES FANS FORUM
(Tuesday 19th March 2002)
Wanderers' new Chief Executive Simon Monkman has said that he is looking forward to hosting a 'Fans Forum' on Tuesday 23rd April. Monkman, who was appointed by the Club at the end of February said via the Official Match programme that the aim of the forum is to "communicate, consult and get involved with Wycombe Wanderers fans so that we quickly get on the same wavelength"
Welcome to Wycombe Wanderers However, the 36 year old is not expecting an easy ride and he'll also have to change an attitude within the current Board that has left the fans in the dark on a number of key issues. He added "I obviously don't expect everyone to agree with all my decisions, but I'm determined that those decisions don't come as a surprise and that they are based on effective research and evaluation."
Monkman has been fairly critical of the existing set-up within the Club saying that "Comunication is poor and implementation of new ideas is too slow". He says he's expecting "regular, two-way flow of information to become the norm".
He's already asked fans for their views and the common themes emerging include, additional transport schemes, better PA systems, matchday music and improved catering. He has promised to publish a 'league table' of these issues and intended actions in the coming weeks.
The ex-NAAFI man is asking fans to be patient in the early weeks of his tenure. "I want success as much as you do but I won't risk losing sustainable growth through inadequate research". He is using the phrase 'Serious about Success' as his motto and although his initial priority will be to bring in a new main sponsor for the Club, he says "There are quick wins to be had and a longer term Business Plan to ensure future commercial success needs to be constructed before the end of the season"
Since this article was first published, the date for the forum has now been confirmed for Tuesday 23rd April, starting at 7.30pm in the Vere Suite. The full list of the panel is Chief Executive Simon Monkman, Manager Lawrie Sanchez, Safety Officer Frank Knowles, Director of Sales & Marketing Mark Austin, Food & Beverage Manager Tony Leese, Financial Controller Charles Colton, Football Secretary Keith Allen and Press Officer Alan Hutchinson. All are welcome and entry is free.
