ALL THERE IS TO SAY AND KNOW ABOUT WYCOMBE WANDERERS ON THE INTERNET....
CHAIRBOYS START AT STOKE
(Thursday 22nd June 2000)
Wycombe will open the new Nationwide Division Two Football League season on Saturday 12th August with a trip to promotion favourites Stoke City. The Wanderers haven't won their opening game of the season since 1994 when Cambridge United were thrashed 3-0 in the first ever Division Two campaign. However, in previous trips to the Potteries, Wycombe have twice come away with a draw. Last season at The Britannia Stadium Jermaine McSporran gave Wycombe the lead only for Arnar Gunnlaugsson to level for the home side from the penalty spot. The previous season two goals from Sean Devine earned a 2-2 draw. Wycombe opened last season's campaign with a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Adams Park.

The first home game for Wycombe is the following Saturday (19th August) when newly promoted Northampton Town visit Adams Park. The Cobblers have bounced straight back after one season in Division Three - their last visit to Adams Park saw a 2-1 victory for The Cobblers in a dire relegation battle.

The August Bank Holiday has Wycombe travelling to Millwall on Saturday 26th August followed by a home game with Luton Town scheduled for Monday 28th August. There are more local derbies on Saturday 2nd September with the trip to Brentford, while Oxford United are the visitors to Adams Park the following week in a game that SKY have chosen for live coverage and means the game will be moved to Friday (8th September) - kick-off 7.45pm.

The only other fixture to change so far is the Notts County home game originally set for Saturday 7th October. This is now most likely to take place the previous evening (kick-off 7.45pm) due to the England/Germany World qualifier at Wembley on the Saturday.

The much maligned fixture computer has thrown up consecutive midweek away trips in October - Oldham Athletic (Tuesday 17th October) and Wrexham (Tuesday 24th October), while the second-half of the season sees the now obligatory midweek trip to Bristol Rovers (Tuesday 20th February).

The Club will probably not be overly pleased with the Christmas fixtures that has thrown up trips to Cambridge United (Tuesday 26th December) and Northampton Town (Saturday 30th December), although the New Years Day game at home to Millwall should bring in a bumper gate.

The final game of the 2000/2001 campaign takes place on Saturday 5th May when old rivals Colchester United travel to Adams Park. The reverse fixture at Layer Road is scheduled for Saturday 25th November.

Wycombe open their cup campaign for the new season on Wednesday 23rd August with the First Round - 1st Leg of the Worthington Cup - the draw for which is due to take place on 24th July. The 2nd Leg takes place two weeks later on Wednesday 6th September. The AXA sponsored FA Cup starts for Wycombe on the weekend of Saturday 18th November, with the Second and Third Round scheduled to take place on the weekends of Saturday 9th December and Saturday 6th January respectively.
