ALL THERE IS TO SAY AND KNOW ABOUT WYCOMBE WANDERERS ON THE INTERNET....
The future of Wycombe Wanderers
WHY CHANGE?
There has been much talk since around 1997 of Wycombe Wanderers 'selling-up' to a big money backer. Wycombe's structure is thought to be unique within the Football League, in as much that no one person 'owns the club'. The Club is owned by its 'members' and run by the elected Board of Directors. This structure prevents substantial financial backing in the form of investment but also protects the club from assett strippers and those looking to make money from involvement with club - look no further than Brighton and Doncaster for examples of the latter.
The proposed changes in July 1998 did little to change this situation. So why change? At the AGM back in October 1997, Chairman Ivor Beeks said the EGM would "discuss various options of going forward to change some of the Articles to bring them into the 21st Century and make them more adaptable to the modern game"
Not much help there! In the letter giving Notice of the EGM dated 19th May 1998 he added  "In the interests of the Club, it is important that we get things right for the future and I and other Board Members feel that the changes proposed will not only get our Constitution into line with current requirements, but will also give the Club the flexibility it needs to meet the challenges that the early years of the next century will offer, and not only survive but to go on to continued and increased success"
Sounds like radical stuff but still not clear when you analyse the proposals. The EGM in July 1998 did little to clarify the need for the changes although the Directors asked for their trust to refine them at a later stage.
